Aims and scope

Kente: Cape Coast Journal of Literature and the Arts is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal of the Department of English, University Cape Coast, Ghana. Kente publishes original scholarly research informed by literary and cultural theory. The journal is published twice a year. Special issues are devoted to specific themes, proposed by guest editors, with the aim of attracting original research on specific themes, authors, genres, etc.

The journal publishes articles on the following areas:  Postcolonial Anglophone literature; Slavery and the African literary imagination; Popular culture; Emerging writers in Ghanaian Literature; Recent writings in African Francophone Literature; Diaspora writings emerging in Africa; Gender issues in Africa in African literature and the arts; Representation and problematisation of masculinity in African literature, film and other cultural forms/practices; Ecocritical issues in African literature; Afrofuturity, utopian and dystopian forms/ issues.

 

Peer Review Policy

All submissions to Kente: Cape Coast Journal of Literature and the Arts go through a rigorous two-stage peer review process: screening by the editorial board review panel and external reviewers when required. Each article is reviewed by a minimum of two referees who are specialists in the area.

The journal accepts articles on condition that

  • it is an original work and does not duplicate any other previously published work, including one’s previously published work.
  • it has been submitted only to Kente: Cape Coast Journal of Literature and the Arts and therefore not under consideration or accepted for publication or in press or published elsewhere.
  • it does not contain language or material that is abusive, defamatory, libelous, obscene, fraudulent, or illegal.

 

Failure to adhere to any of the above conditions may lead to the rejection of the manuscript. By submitting a manuscript to Kente one agrees to any necessary originality checks the manuscript may have to undergo during the peer-review and production process. Authors are to note that opinions expressed in contributions are those of the authors ONLY and are not necessarily endorsed by the Editorial Board or by Kente: Cape Coast Journal of Literature and the Arts.
